Setting up Loxone with Alexa – step by step
Illustrative image, AI-generated
You set up Alexa for your Loxone Miniserver in eight steps: create an MFM Voice account, connect the Miniserver, share devices, enable the “MFM Voice” skill in the Alexa app and let Alexa search for devices. You do not need any additional hardware. Set aside a quiet evening and have a few things ready beforehand.
The MFM Voice skill currently only works with an amazon.de account and Alexa set to German, so voice commands and app labels are shown in German with an English gloss in brackets.
What to have ready beforehand
- A Loxone Miniserver with up-to-date firmware. Very old firmware without token authentication is not supported.
- The address for remote access. The Miniserver must be reachable from the internet. The simplest way is Loxone's remote access service, Remote Connect. You then do not need port forwarding on your router.
- An Amazon account at amazon.de. Alexa must be set to German.
- An Echo device or the Alexa app.
- Internet at home. Without internet, voice control does not work. Wall switches, the Loxone app and automation keep working.
The eight steps
1. Create an account. Create an MFM Voice account with your email address and a password. Confirm the address using the link in the confirmation email.
2. Create a separate user. This is a recommendation, not a requirement. In Loxone Config, create a separate user for MFM Voice. Give it access only to the rooms and functions Alexa should control.
3. Connect the Miniserver. In MFM Voice, enter the Miniserver's remote access address, the user name and the password. MFM Voice then reads the rooms and devices. The 14-day trial starts with this step.
4. Select devices. Tick every device Alexa may control. Give each one a name that is easy to say.
5. Enable the skill. Open the Alexa app. Tap “Mehr” (More) and then “Skills und Spiele” (Skills & Games). Search for “MFM Voice” and tap “Zur Verwendung aktivieren” (Enable to use).
6. Sign in. The MFM Voice sign-in page opens. Sign in with your MFM Voice login details. Your Amazon or Loxone login details will not work here.
7. Search for devices. Tap “Geräte erkennen” (Discover devices) or say: “Alexa, suche nach neuen Geräten.” (Search for new devices.) The search takes up to 45 seconds.
8. First command. Say, for example: “Alexa, schalte das Wohnzimmerlicht ein.” (Switch on the living room light.)
Common stumbling blocks
- “Ungültige Anmeldedaten” (Invalid login details). You did not use your MFM Voice login details.
- The skill cannot be found. The Alexa app must be signed in with a German Amazon account (amazon.de). Search for “MFM Voice” with a space.
- Alexa finds no devices. Check three things in MFM Voice: is the Miniserver connected? Are devices shared? Is your access active?
- A device shows “reagiert nicht” (not responding). Check that the Miniserver is online and reachable and that your subscription is active.

After the 14 days
The trial is free and does not require any payment details. It ends automatically. After that, Alexa no longer responds to your Loxone devices unless you take out a subscription. The subscription can be cancelled monthly. Your setup stays saved for as long as your account exists.
For quick reference, the setup guide covers the same steps, with a direct link to each one.
